A Day Without a Woman: Organize · Resist · Protect | Deborah Lippmann in Miss Independent and Respect Swatches + Comparisons

Today, on International Women's Day, I participate in the A Day Without a Woman event. I mentioned it in my last post:

"There is more information about this on the Women's March site and an article discussing this strike on Vox. In a week where we've seen our new president make grave and despicable things up out of whole cloth once again, please consider showing him an irrefutable truth: "the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system--while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity" and "that trans and gender nonconforming people face heightened levels of discrimination, social oppression and political targeting" (Women's March). It's a sad statement that I could post a link connecting Donald Trump to each one of those acts. The truth matters. Goodness matters. Women matter."

I hope you'll participate in whatever way you can. In the U.S. we are now living with an administration that thinks nothing of trampling on the civil liberties of its citizens. If you think your voice is small and your power is nonexistent, please look at this infographic from Time, "Here's What a Day Without Women Would Really Look Like." Participate. Make yourself heard.

Deborah Lippmann in Miss Independent is a deep Tyrian purple creme. It's deep and vampy but doesn't ever cross over into looking black. You can see it looks warmer and lighter in tone than it dries on the nail. This polish was part of the Fall 2015 "Roar" collection. Awesome formula - 2 thin coats.

This shade is unique in my collection. Essie in #663 Damsel in a Dress is darker and cooler, with a subtle silver shimmer running through it. Chanel in Provocation (creme) is lighter and warmer. Chanel in #603 Charivari (creme) is dusty purple - a touch lighter and cooler with some taupe in it. Rescue Beauty Lounge in Recherche (creme) is a slightly dusty cool purple that can look brown in some lights on my skin tone. OPI in William Tell Me About OPI (creme) is deeper. Zoya in Casey is one of those black-looking deep vampy crellies; it's cooler and much darker.

I also compared it to some of my vampy reds. Clinique in Black Honey Velvet (jelly) is much more red. Chanel in #18 Rouge Noir (creme) is deeper and more red. Chanel in #427 Diabolic (creme) is pretty close in hue but it's much darker and there is more purity in color, if that makes sense (Miss Independent is slightly murky in comparison).

Deborah Lippmann in Respect is also from the Fall 2015 "Roar" collection. It's a brick red creme. On me, in the shade it can look almost like burnt sienna, but on cooler skin tones, I suspect it might not lean that warm. Perfect formula on this one - 2 thin coats.

I really picked this one up for the name since this isn't a color I'm normally drawn to, so I don't have many similar polishes in my collection.

Chanel in #207 Barcelona Red is deeper and has less orange in it (it still leans quite brick on my nails), plus gold shimmer. KL Polish in Brick Sidewalk is way more brown.

Michelle has these polish swatched with comparisons at All Lacquered Up, although I think her lighting makes her comparisons a bit inaccurate. Valesha also has them swatched at Peachy Polish.
